Burnout for Each Type in Human Design

Erin Claire Jones

6 minute read

One of the most powerful things human design sheds light on is the awareness of how to best use our energy to find more flow and ease in our lives. We so often get taken off track when we try to be something we’re not, rather than honoring who we uniquely are.

So today, I wanted to share some notes on what may cause burnout for each human design type, helpful questions to reflect on, and affirmations that may be useful and empowering as you move forward.

As a Manifesting Generator, burnout may come from…

  • Staying in a job or relationship just because you think you should.
  • Not giving yourself permission to pivot.
  • Not trusting your gut.
  • Using your energy in ways that feel draining instead of in ways that light you up.

It may be helpful to ask yourself:

Are you giving yourself permission to pivot and move on when the energy is no longer there for something?

Are you saying yes to things just because you think you should?

Are you trusting your gut?

Are you investing your energy in things that naturally light you up?

As a Manifesting Generator, I am no longer available for:

  • Feeling boxed in and limited to just one path or passion.
  • Making myself small and shrinking in my power in order to make others comfortable.
  • Saying yes to opportunities just because I think I should, or because others want me to say yes.
  • Sticking with commitments I no longer have the energy for and ignoring my gut’s signal to move on and create space.
  • Trying to explain or justify my gut feelings to others.
  • Trying to do things how others have done them, even when they don’t feel right in my gut.

As a Projector, burnout may come from…

  • Trying to keep up with the world around you.
  • Overgiving in order to feel recognized.
  • Placing your worth in how much you can do rather than how you powerfully you see.
  • Pushing and forcing opportunities rather than waiting to be invited in.

It may be helpful to ask yourself:

Are you taking rest and time alone?

Are you honoring the ebbs and flows of your energy?

Are you nourishing yourself and prioritizing self-care?

Do you trust the value you bring to the world beyond how much you can do?

As a Projector, I am no longer available for:

  • Overworking simply because I feel like I should do more.
  • Seeing rest as lazy and unproductive rather than as essential and life-giving.
  • Trying to do it all alone.
  • Trying to guide and be understood by people who do not see me and are not yet ready for me.
  • Undervaluing my gifts and the power of my perspective.
  • Hiding my magic from the world.

As a Manifestor, burnout may come from…

  • Forgetting to take breaks and rest when you need it.
  • Feeling the need to do all the doing in addition to the the initiating.
  • Not feeling empowered to be in your own flow.
  • Choosing people-pleasing over authenticity.

It may be helpful to ask yourself:

Do you give yourself permission to work in spurts?

Do you trust your gift is in the initiating?

Do you hand things off when it’s time? Do you allow in support?

Do you feel empowered and in control of how you do things?

As a Manifestor, I am no longer available for:

  • Overworking because I believe I should be consistently productive.
  • Trying to do it all myself.
  • Seeking approval or permission from others to pursue my ideas and show up as my most authentic self.
  • Feeling constricted or confined by others.
  • Investing in people who try to tell me what to do and do not root for my freedom or give me space to be in my flow.
  • Making myself small and shrinking in my power to make others comfortable.

As a Reflector, burnout may come from…

  • Investing your energy in spaces and people that don’t feel good.
  • Placing your worth in how hard you work and how much you do.
  • Trying to be consistent rather than fluid in your expression.
  • Pushing too hard and not giving yourself space to restore alone.

It may be helpful to ask yourself:

Are you honoring the ebbs and flows of your energy?

Do you trust the value you bring to the world?

Are you investing your energy in spaces and people that feel good?

Are you honoring the uniqueness or are you trying to keep up with those around you?

As a Reflector, I am no longer available for:

  • Overworking simply because I feel like I should do more.
  • Trying to be the same as everyone else.
  • Saying yes to spaces and people that do not feel good in my body.
  • Personalizing others’ feelings as my own.
  • Not prioritizing time alone to recharge and reset.
  • Undervaluing the power of my perspective.

As a Generator, burnout may come from…

  • Initiating rather than trusting things to come to you.
  • Overcommitting and saying yes just because you think you should.
  • Using up your energy in ways that don’t feel exciting and don’t light you up.
  • Not trusting your gut to make decisions.

It may be helpful to ask yourself:

Do you feel connected to your gut and do you use it to make decisions?

Are you using your energy each day in ways that feel good?

Are you letting go of work and relationships that are a drain on your energy?

Are you allowing things to come to you?

As a Generator, I am no longer available for:

  • Saying yes to commitments even when my gut is telling me they are not right for me.
  • Prioritizing others’ expectations and desires for me above my own satisfaction and excitement.
  • Trying to explain or justify my gut feelings to others.
  • Seeing following my joy as selfish rather than the best thing I can do for everyone.
  • Keeping my energy in relationships and opportunities that consistently frustrate and deplete me.
  • Undervaluing how powerful my energy is.
